Questions and answers.
Including the two answers that are “not yet”. Rote is in development, and a page that pretended otherwise would be the wrong place to start.
What people ask first
Do my files get uploaded anywhere?
No. Rote is a desktop application. It reads files from your disk, works on them there, and writes results where you tell it to. No server is involved, so there is nothing to upload and no copy of your data anywhere else.
Will it change my original file?
No. Rote never silently modifies or overwrites a source file. You see every change in a preview first, and output goes to a file you choose.
Do I need to know formulas or scripting?
No. You click the operations you want and see the result. There are no formulas to write and no command line to use.
Does it use AI?
No, and it does not need to. Rote runs the operations you chose, in the order you chose them, so the same file gives the same result every time.
Which platforms will it run on?
Windows, macOS and Linux. The beta is not out yet — join the wishlist and we will tell you which build is ready first.
Can it run automatically, on a schedule?
Not yet. Today you open a file and run a saved job against it. Scheduling and folder triggers are planned but not built, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Does it handle Excel files?
Not yet. Rote works with CSV files today. Excel (XLSX) is planned.
What does it cost?
Pricing has not been set. Nothing on this site is an offer to sell, and joining the wishlist does not commit you to anything.
