Clean a messy export
- orders-messy.csv 16.9 KB
120 orders with a little of everything wrong.
Things to try
- Open Issues: empty rows and columns, stray spaces, a blank and a repeated header, repeated rows, mixed capitals in Region.
- Trim spaces, Empty rows, Empty columns… and Tidy headers… — then compare Result with Original.
- Find duplicates…: whole row, then Customer only with ignore case and extra spaces.
- Format dates… on Order Date: the values prove day first (31/08/2026).
- Values ▾ → Read as numbers on Amount ($1,234.50, USD 99.00, (45.00) for refunds), then Filter rows… Amount > 1000 and Sort rows… by Amount.
- Change case… on Region; Values ▾ → Find & replace Cancelled → Canceled; Remove characters ( ) - from Phone.
- Columns ▾: Split Contact on a space into first and last name; Combine City and State; Drop, reorder or add columns.
- ZIP codes such as 02134 keep their leading zero; a note with a comma and a line break stays in one cell.
Run a saved workflow on next week's file
- orders-next-week.csv 13.1 KB
New orders, the same columns as orders-messy.csv.
- orders-next-week-renamed.csv 12.1 KB
The same week, but Region is now Sales Region, Order Date is Date, and Contact is gone.
Things to try
- Clean orders-messy.csv, then Workflow → Save (or Download the .json).
- Open orders-next-week.csv and open the workflow: every step checks out — Run on this file.
- Open orders-next-week-renamed.csv with the same workflow: the check names each step a renamed or missing column breaks.
Find duplicate records
- customers-duplicates.csv 10.5 KB
About 150 customers, some entered more than once.
Things to try
- Whole row first: only the exact repeats.
- Then by email: turn on ignore case and extra spaces and more appear (ANN@… and a trailing space).
- Switch whether blank emails match each other, and keep first or last.
- By first_name + last_name: the same person under a new customer_id.
Compare two versions
- products-last-week.csv 2.1 KB
60 products: sku, product, price, stock.
- products-this-week.csv 2.5 KB
This week's list, with a new supplier column.
Things to try
- Compare by sku: rows changed, added and removed, cell by cell.
- A price of 1.50 against 1.5 is a change until you turn on numbers by value.
- One name differs only in capitals, another only in a trailing space — try ignore case and trim spaces.
- Last week has a repeated sku and a blank one: those rows are set aside as not compared, never paired.
Merge monthly exports
- orders-2026-07.csv 2.6 KB
July: order_id, order_date, customer, email, amount.
- orders-2026-08.csv 3.3 KB
August: the same columns in another order, plus phone.
- orders-2026-09.csv 2.5 KB
September: Order_ID, Amount with a trailing space, and Client instead of customer.
Things to try
- Choose all three: columns match by exact name, whatever their order.
- Order_ID and Amount are suggested as near matches (capitals, a space) but not applied — apply them; send Client into customer by hand.
- Phone exists only in August: the other months get blanks. Add a source_file column and download.
Open Excel workbooks
- sales-workbook.xlsx 7.3 KB
Orders, Customers, Summary (formulas) and a hidden Rates sheet.
Things to try
- Choose a sheet: the hidden one is marked and only read if you pick it.
- ZIP is stored as a number but shown with leading zeros: switch Excel cell values between As shown and As stored.
- Summary holds formulas — their saved results come through.
- The workbook also opens in the Data Workspace, the Duplicate Finder, either side of Compare, and Merge (one sheet per input).
Other separators and encodings
- sales-europe.csv 3.1 KB
A German-style export: semicolons, Windows-1252, 1.234,56 € and 31.08.2026.
- inventory.tsv 2.1 KB
Tab-separated stock list with six-digit item numbers like 004217.
Things to try
- The separator and encoding are detected and shown in the file header; ü, ø and € read correctly.
- Read as numbers on Betrag with a comma decimal mark; Remove characters % from Rabatt.
- Format dates… on Datum (day first) and on last_counted, which mixes two date styles.
