Why
Xero statement imports fail on dates it cannot read in the organisation's format and on balance or summary lines with no amount; YYYY-MM-DD cannot be read the wrong way round.
What it does
- Remove empty rowsOn the sample: 1 row removed
- Trim spaces in every columnOn the sample: 1 cell changed
- Keep only the rows where "Amount" is not blank; the other rows are removedOn the sample: 1 row removed
- Read "Amount" as numbers (decimal mark: dot, 1,234.56); values that are not numbers are left as they areOn the sample: 2 cells changed
- Rewrite the dates in "Date" (read as day first) as YYYY-MM-DD; blank and unreadable values are left as they areOn the sample: 3 cells changed
Your file needs these columns, spelled exactly: Date, Amount. If one is missing or renamed, the workflow tells you which step it breaks and does not run.
The desktop template Bank CSV to Xero also turns separate Debit and Credit columns into one Amount; that needs a formula, which the browser does not have, so this one starts from a single Amount column.
